THERMOMECHANICAL MODELING OF CONTINUOUSLY CAST STEEL
The surface and internal quality of continuous casting products depends on the behavior strand in the casting machine during solidification. Knowledge of instantaneous temperature distribution within stainless steel slab during continuous casting is of utmost importance. The temperature profiles obtained at each moment as well as instantaneous solidification front helps understand the explanation of certain surface defects in the case of stainless steel. In the study we have developed, a thermo mechanical model makes it possible to calculate the field distribution of temperature and fraction solidified from ingot mold (meniscus) all along metallurgical length. It allows also the evaluation of the deformations at the solidification front and the evaluation of the effect of certain local on risk of transverse cracking during the bending and the unbending operation in the continuous casting machine.
