HEAD-MOUNTED DISPLAY WEARABLE DEVICES ERGONOMICS AND USABILITY

Radu COMES, Călin NEAMȚU

Abstract

Wearable devices such as head-mounted displays (HMD), augmented reality glasses and mixed reality headsets have started to be widely adopted in various domains. These devices have been designed to support human activities using interactive digital content. There are various research studies regarding their implementation and frameworks used to select the suitable wearable devices in various domains, but their ergonomics, ease of software development and usability are not discussed in detail. Within this paper the authors have analyzed the most popular HMD devices available on the market that can integrate 3D content to answer four proposed research questions. The authors have analyzed the applications they developed during recent years in various domains such as engineering, teaching, industrial maintenance, and cultural heritage.
