LITERATURE REVIEW ABOUT MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS FOR MASS CUSTOMIZATION AND INDIVIDUALIZATION
Abstract
In the manufacturing industry, changes are fast and profound, in line with the new industrial paradigms. This article analyzes manufacturing systems in the context of individualized and customized mass production. The literature review was performed in the main databases using keywords: Smart Manufacturing, Smart Manufacturing Systems, and Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems. The conclusion is that Industry 4.0 offers solutions for the development of smart manufacturing systems (SMS), and reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMS) are well suited for mass individualization. The evolution of manufacturing systems and future trends are moving towards a new paradigm: adaptive cognitive manufacturing systems (ACMS). New research directions are needed to support this development.
