STUDY ON THE PRE-DESIGN OF AN OFFSHORE MONOPILE WIND TURBINE INSTALLED IN ROMANIAN SECTOR OF THE BLACK SEA

Mariea MARCU

Abstract

The paper shows the general characteristics of an offshore wind turbine and also a study of the environmental loads acting on its support. As it appears from many studies published in recent years, the western Black Sea is suitable for the installation of an efficient wind farm. We chose a monopile substructure as this is suitable for the water depth in that area. Based on environmental data from the Romanian sector of the Black Sea, we study how the environmental characteristics and the size of the monopile influence the total force and total bending moment acting on the structure. In this way, we identified the worst-case scenario and analyzed the dimensions of the monopile to propose a preliminary design.
