Abstract

In this research a method for experimental determination of the friction coefficient for the sliding friction regime is presented. For this purpose, a pin-on-disc friction coupling is used. The material couplings tested are a single pair steel-steel. The surfaces of the tested parts are analysed microscopically, using an SEM microscope, and 3D details of the surface micro-geometry are shown. A wear intensity and wear rate analysis are performed for the studied friction couples. Finally, a study with applications in automotive engineering is presented, namely the structural thermal coupled regime analysis of automotive brake discs. Results such as temperature distribution and mechanical stresses in the components of the braking system are obtained
