RESEARCH ON THE FREE CYLINDRICAL BENDING PROCESS OF METALLIC SHEETS
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to analysis the quality parameters which have an important influence on the final shape of the products obtained from sheets subjected to free cylindrical bending. Sheet metal bending is one of the most widely applied forming operation. The springback phenomenon generally has an essential influence on the quality of the final product obtained by this process. Springback can be minimized by using suitable die designs but cannot be completely removed. In order to obtain that reduction or compensation, the springback amount should be estimated as accurately as possible. In order to determine the springback amplitude, the simulation of a free cylindrical bending operation has been performed using the finite element method. The ABAQUS program has been used in order to perform the finite element simulation of the sheet metal bending. The finite element simulation of the free cylindrical bending process has been followed by an experimental research aiming to validate the numerical results.
