ECONOMIC CALCULATION OF CO2 EMISSIONS FROM VEHICLES IN THE CONTEXT OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ROAD TRANSPORT SYSTEM
Abstract
This paper presents an applied investigation of the technical characteristics of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions produced during the combustion processes in internal combustion engines used in road vehicles. Also, it is presented an economic justification for the CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the quantity of CO₂ generated per liter of fuel was calculated for various fuel types. Based on combustion equations, the resulting CO₂ emissions from gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles were then analyzed in relation to different operating parameters. The paper also presents the financial resources regarding the cost of CO2 emitted by the analyzed cars. The paper aim is to raise awareness of the environmental and global warming impacts of old and new vehicles with petrol, diesel or LPG engines using real-life cases.
