EMERGING AND DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES: AN EXPLORATION OF AI-POWERED WARGAMING AND PREDICTIVE MODELING IN MILITARY DECISION-MAKING

Marin-Marian COMAN, Claudiu-Vasile KIFOR

Abstract

The unstable contemporary environment, characterized by numerous crises and conflicts demanding effective intelligence gathering and great coordination of military forces and capabilities during military operations across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace, is a challenge for every commander and leading staff. The implementation of Emerging and Disruptive Technologies (EDTs) particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), as an enabler during wargaming, could augment and transform the manner in which trainees and decision makers conduct training and prepare strategic decisions. Employing the Weka platform, this article explores the role of AI as a supporting tool during wargaming vignettes and clarifies how machine learning (ML) algorithms anticipate threats and enhance decision-making, enabling more flexible and adaptable military forces and capabilities in today’s contested environment.
