DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF MILITARY LOGISTICS IN THE INDUSTRY 4.0 ERA: AI FOR TECHNICAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE OPTIMIZATION

Ciprian CUSUTURĂ, Toma PLEȘANU, Tiberiu GIURGIU

Abstract

This work examines how a NATO member state can modernize military logistics and maintenance through Industry 4.0 principles and AI-enabled decision support. It frames logistics as an operational function shaped by multinational interoperability, high-tempo deployment, and contested environments. A layered reference architecture is proposed, linking sensors and local gateways to a central data platform, analytics modules, and decision dashboards, with cybersecurity and resilience built in. The study highlights predictive analytics, anomaly detection, reliability estimation, and optimization for stocks and transport, and it addresses workforce upskilling and AI-assisted training. Practical recommendations emphasize data governance, phased pilots, and alignment with allied standards.
