THE SONIC-HYDRAULIC GEOTECHNICAL DRILLING HEAD AND THE TESTING RIG

Abstract


The sonic drilling technology works by inducing in the steel drill pipe a series of high-frequency, sinusoidal wave vibration. The required high speed and torque to mechanically generate 150-200 Hz vibrations makes the sonic drilling head to be often unreliable. This paper will discus about the construction and testing of a new hydraulically driven vibration generator. We managed to achieve a 150 Hz vibration with a 2 mm amplitude and 11 KN vibration force using a 7,5 KW hydraulic source.
