AGING INFLUENCE UPON SOME MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF SILICON RUBBER

Abstract

Silicon rubber is a material used in many technical, medical, culinary, and other applications. Like any other material, silicon rubber loses its properties over time because a complex degradation phenomenon appears. The paper presents a five year case study that shows how silicon rubber’s mechanical properties are influenced in time. The material model that best approximates the obtained experimental data has been identified as 3rd degree Yeoh model (also called the third-order reduced polynomial form).

Key words: degradation, mechanical properties, silicon rubber
