CASE STUDY ON IMPROVING OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ON CONSTRUCTION SITES

Abstract


This paper presents a case study conducted on 275 workers employed by 4 small and medium-sized construction companies. The 21 influencing factors identified in the study of the causes that generated work accidents were considered. The questionnaire completed by the workers proves that they correctly perceive the major dangers and that they also feel the lack of guidance. At the end of a year of collaboration with the external prevention and protection service and through them with the team leaders, we managed to reduce the accident rate within the four construction companies by 50%, from an average of 6 accidents per year to an average of 3 accidents per year.
