EFFICIENT SIGNAL SMOOTHING AND IMPULSE COMPUTATION IN HIGH-RESOLUTION PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS

Andrada RUNCEANU, Mircea BOSCOIANU

Abstract

This paper presents a data processing approach for smoothing noisy experimental signals and estimating impulse through numerical integration. Large pressure–time datasets are first reduced using controlled subsampling while preserving critical peak values. High-frequency noise is then attenuated using a Savitzky–Golay smoothing filter, applied selectively after the signal maximum to avoid distortion of physically meaningful features. Impulse values are computed by integrating the processed signals using the composite trapezoidal rule following the removal of non-physical negative values. The proposed methodology improves numerical stability and repeatability compared to raw data processing while remaining computationally efficient and suitable for large-scale experimental pressure or force measurements.
