ISR DRONES AS DUAL-USE TECHNOLOGY. ECONOMICS OF COST-BENEFIT UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF INDUSTRY 4.0
Abstract
Modern battlefield is undergoing radical transformations, ISR drones becoming an essential capability for operational superiority. In parallel, migration to Industry 4.0 comes with much more capable civilian technological systems with significant spillover potential in the military industry. The article comparatively analyzes dual-use drones, with three specific development and use scenarios for ISR drones: dedicated military development, industrial and civil-military conversion.
Using a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) correlated to the maturity of Industry 4.0, specific to each sector and to the impact of technological culture on the spillover effect, the study examines the total cost of ownership (TCO), operational performance in contested environments and the impact of losses in conflict, for the three constructive variants, that can be consider also to adaptive robotics solutions.
